A Memorandum of Understanding for studies related to the modernization and digitalization of the Libyan electricity system was signed by the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) and the Fund for Development and Reconstruction of Libya (FDRL), in Benghazi.
The Memorandum provides for the preparation of analyses for the Libyan electricity network, the exchange of know-how, as well as the provision of training services at the Operator level.
The aim is to modernize the electricity networks and support the broader economic reconstruction of the country.
Signing in the context of the Libyan-Greek Forum
The signing of the Memorandum took place in the context of the Libyan-Greek Forum for Reconstruction and Development, organized in Benghazi.
The Forum was attended by the first broad business mission of 40 Greek companies, including IPTO, led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for Economic Diplomacy, Haris Theocharis.
The Agreement was signed, on behalf of IPTO, by the Director of International Relations, Dr. Theodoros Tsakiris, representing the Chairman and CEO of the Operator, Manos Manousakis. On behalf of FDRL, the General Manager of the Fund, Belkasem Khalifa Hifter, signed.
During his speech at the Forum, the head of FDRL emphasized that the development and modernization of the electricity grid are a basic prerequisite for the stable electricity supply of the country and, by extension, for its sustainable economic reconstruction.
Critical moment for Libya
The Forum took place at a particularly critical moment for Libya, as the reconstruction of vital state infrastructure has been given high priority by the Libyan authorities, aiming to restore the smooth functioning of the economy and strengthen the country’s energy security.
