Dynacom Tankers, owned by George Prokopiou, is in the process of renewing its tanker fleet.

The Greek shipowner, which runs one of the largest shipbuilding programs in the world, with more than 100 ships under construction, was highly active last week in sales and new orders.

In particular, according to shipping brokerage agencies, Dynacom has reportedly agreed with the South Korean Sinokor for the sale of 12 tankers, VLCC and Suezmax type.

The agreement is part of the multiple deal that Sinokor has made, purchasing approximately 35 tankers, from a large number of shipping companies, mainly VLCC. An agreement that has raised prices in the second-hand market, since, as analysts pointed out, the South Koreans charged a high premium to secure the signatures of the shipowners.

During the week, according to Chinese platforms, Prokopiou reached an agreement with Hengli Shipbuilding in China, a shipyard that is building most of the new tankers.

The VLCC market has moved into a stronger phase in the past week, with shipowners now clearly targeting triple-digit WS rates for MEG/East voyages. Supported by corresponding daily yields on the USG and West Africa/East routes.

This positive sentiment, according to Fearnleys, is supported by the geopolitical situation, Sinokor’s moves to acquire capacity — both through purchases and time charters — and derivatives market positions, factors that appear to outweigh supply and demand forecasts.
