The Growthfund announced the launch of an international tender process for the sale of a majority stake (at least 51%) in the company Hellenic Salt Pans.
The tender process will be carried out in two phases.
During Phase A, interested investors are invited to express their interest by submitting a non-binding letter of expression of interest, in accordance with the terms of the Invitation. The process is open to consortia, associations and groups of legal or natural persons, investment companies or investment funds, ensuring the maximum possible participation and competition.
Interested parties who meet the criteria of the Invitation will qualify to participate in Phase B, which concerns the submission of binding offers.
Deadline for expression of interest
The deadline for submitting expressions of interest expires on January 30, 2026.
The Growthfund holds 80% of the company’s shares, while the remaining 20% belongs to the Municipalities within whose boundaries the salt pans in operation are located, which have been granted for use and exploitation to the Company, with the largest percentages held by the municipalities of Messolonghi (10.19%), Pydna Kolindros (3.18%) and West Lesvos (3.13%).
The entry of a strategic investor into the share capital of the company aims to strengthen the company’s development prospects and extroversion, in an effort to better utilize its natural resources and improve its operation for the benefit of both the local and national economy. As emphasized in the relevant announcement, “with a leading position in the natural salt production sector, the company is the main supplier of the domestic market and one of the most important producers in the wider Mediterranean region. This strategic move aims to transition from a dynamic public company to a European ‘champion’ in salt production, with enhanced competitiveness, modern infrastructure and a dynamic development path.”
“Having the exclusive use and exploitation of eight industrial-sized salt pans across the country, the company has a total annual production capacity of over 200,000 tons, covering a total area of 23,434 acres. It produces and sells different types of salt – washed, unwashed and of special specifications – including fleur de sel from the salt pans of Messolonghi, a product that has been established as a natural symbol of quality and traditional production.”
