Unpaid taxes amounted to 7.26 billion euros in January-October 2025 according to data from the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE).
In October, new tax debts amounted to 785 million euros.
“Νew” debt
Overall, the “new” overdue debt (including non-tax categories) created from the beginning of the year to October amounted to 7.797 billion euros, showing an increase of 17.14% compared to the corresponding period last year (6.656 billion euros).
Focusing exclusively on tax debts (excluding the 10 non-tax categories), the new overdue debt for the ten months amounted to 7.258 billion euros, increased by 24.37% compared to 2024.
In October, the new arrears (total) reached 829 million euros, recording an increase of 12.03% compared to October 2024. 90.32% of this amount comes mainly from income tax (317 million euros) and VAT (233 million euros).
Reduction of debtors
The number of debtors was limited to 3,896,032 natural and legal persons, recording a decrease of 0.84% compared to September 2025 and 0.77% compared to October 2024. The total arrears now amount to 112.5 billion euros. Of this amount, 27.32 billion euros are classified as uncollectible, with the actual outstanding balance at 85.18 billion euros.
It is noted that an extreme debt value of 2.4 billion euros has been excluded from the outstanding balance as of 01/10/2025, which stems from an incorrect VAT debit amendment declaration.
Collection
Ιn the ten-month period, total collections against new overdue debt (excluding non-tax categories) reached 2.639 billion euros, recording an increase of 9.28% compared to last year. In October, the amount totaled 409 million euros, up 14.57% compared to the corresponding month of 2024.
In total (against old and new debts), 5.49 billion euros have been collected in the ten-month period, an amount increased by 7.44% compared to the corresponding period of 2024.
