The 24th NAVIGATOR 2025 – The Shipping Decision Makers Forum was successfully concluded, bringing together 670 top executives from 361 companies, as well as representatives from 20 Embassies and 41 maritime organizations, academic institutions and port authorities. For another year, the Forum confirmed its role as one of the most important meeting points of the global maritime ecosystem.
The proceedings were opened by the Deputy Minister of Shipping Stefanos Gikas, the President of the Hellenic Chamber Shipping George Alexandratos and the Ambassador of China Fang Qiu, while the Ambassador of the United Kingdom Matthew Lodge was also present. A special moment was the speech by Lars Rasmussen, Co-Founder of Google Maps, who highlighted the role of digital mapping, artificial intelligence and connectivity in shipping and global trade.
Throughout the Forum, leading voices from the shipping industry participated in high-level discussions on decarbonization, smart shipping, ESG, human resources and geopolitical developments. For example, Danae Bezantakou, CEO of Navigator Shipping Consultants, highlighted the strength of Greek shipping, focusing on innovation, sustainability and international cooperation.
She also highlighted the YES Tour to Schools initiative, which brings maritime education directly to students across Greece, after introducing the subject into the education curriculum, inspiring the new generation to pursue careers either at sea or on land, ensuring the continuity of Greek seafaring.
“Greece remains a global maritime power and is leading the transition towards a sustainable, safe and competitive shipping industry, where innovation coexists with people. Investing in green ships, ports and educational structures strengthens both the sector and the cohesion and development of our island societies,” stressed the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Vassilis Kikilias, in his speech. On his part, the Deputy Minister of Shipping, Stefanos Gikas, pointed out that the green transition must be realistic and fair, ensuring the competitiveness of shipping while at the same time supporting smaller businesses and encouraging balanced development throughout the country.
At the same time, the Chinese Ambassador highlighted the strategic importance of Greek-Chinese cooperation in shipping, focusing on green technologies, digitalization and “smart” ports, while also mentioning important achievements of China, such as the first refueling with green methanol in Shanghai and the launch of the first autonomous research vessel.
