The bilateral cooperation between Greece and the United States in shipping is entering a new, more ambitious stage, Minister οf Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Vasilis Kikilias said in a post.
“By order of the Prime Minister, discussions have already begun with the US side for investments in shipyards, ports and critical infrastructure, with the aim of creating new jobs and restoring the shipbuilding industry as a strong productive force in the country.”
He underlined that the roots of this cooperation are deep. After World War II, the legendary Liberty ships were granted at preferential prices to Greek shipowners, contributing to the revival of Greek shipping.
The salvaged “Hellas Liberty” in the port of Piraeus is a symbol of that era and a reminder of the role that the United States played in shaping one of the world’s greatest maritime powers.
