ELSTAT: Inflation at 2% in October

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in October 2025, compared to September 2025, showed an increase of 0.1%, compared to zero change in the corresponding comparison of the previous year

Inflation was at a rate of 2% in October 2025, according to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in October 2025, compared to September 2025, showed an increase of 0.1%, compared to zero change in the corresponding comparison of the previous year.

The average CPI for the twelve-month period November 2024 – October 2025, compared to the corresponding Index for the twelve-month period November 2023 – October 2024, showed an increase of 2.5%, compared to an increase of 2.9% that occurred during the corresponding comparison of the twelve-month period November 2023 – October 2024 with the twelve-month period November 2022 – October 2023.

The increase in the General CPI by 2.0% came mainly from increases in the following groups of goods and services:

  • 2.3% in food and non-alcoholic beverages, due mainly to an increase in prices in: bread and cereals, meat (general), fresh fish, dairy products and eggs, fruit (general), chocolates-chocolate products, confectionery, coffee, fruit juices. Part of this increase was offset by a decrease in olive oil, vegetables.
  • 1.8% in alcoholic beverages and tobacco.
  • 1.9% in clothing and footwear.
  • 1.4% in housing, due mainly to an increase in prices in: house rents, house repairs and maintenance, home-related services. Part of this increase was offset by the decrease mainly in prices of: electricity, natural gas, heating oil.
  • 0.7% in durable goods-household goods and services, due mainly to an increase in prices of household services. Part of this increase was offset by a decrease mainly in prices of household appliances and repairs.
  • 0.6% in health, due mainly to an increase in prices of: medical-dental and paramedical services, hospital care. Part of this increase was offset by a decrease mainly in prices of pharmaceutical products.
  • 0.7% in transport, due mainly to an increase in prices of: new cars, car spare parts and accessories, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, other services related to personal transport, passenger air tickets. Part of this increase was offset by a decrease mainly in prices of: used cars, fuels and lubricants.
  • 0.8% in communications, due mainly to an increase in prices for telephone services.
  • 1.0% in recreation-cultural activities, due mainly to an increase in prices for: durable leisure and cultural goods, cultural activities, holiday packages. Part of this increase was offset by a decrease in prices mainly for audiovisual equipment-computers-repairs.
  • 2.8% in education, due mainly to an increase in prices for: preschool and primary education fees, secondary education fees.
  • 6.5% in Hotels-Cafes-Restaurants, due mainly to an increase in prices for restaurants-pastry shops-cafes-canteens. Part of this increase was offset by a decrease in prices mainly for hotels-motels-inns.
  • 0.5% other goods and services, due mainly to an increase in prices in: hairdressing salons and personal care stores, health insurance premiums, and other services. Part of this decrease was offset by an increase in prices mainly in: other personal care items, vehicle insurance premiums.
