HELLENiQ ENERGY will apply an emergency discount to all fuel trading companies exclusively for sales of products in the domestic market from July 14 to August 31, following the relevant announcements made by the Greek government last week.

The measure applies to 95-octane unleaded petrol and diesel fuel intended exclusively for the domestic market, according to HELLENiQ ENERGY. The discount will amount to 7.95 euro cents per litre before VAT on the price of 95-octane unleaded petrol and 4.05 euro cents per litre before VAT on the price of diesel fuel, and will be displayed as a separate item on invoices.

HELLENiQ ENERGY announcement

“HELLENiQ ENERGY is once again supporting Greek consumers, responding to the exceptional conditions that have developed in the fuel market due to current circumstances and the escalating geopolitical crisis in the Gulf, which have resulted in a significant increase in travel costs during the summer period.

HELLENIC PETROLEUM S.A., a subsidiary of HELLENiQ ENERGY that supplies fuel to the domestic market as well as international markets, will allocate 20 million euros to finance a direct emergency discount during the summer period on the prices of key transport fuels (95-octane unleaded petrol and diesel fuel) intended for consumption in the domestic market.

The direct price reduction follows a request by the Greek government, with the company considering it the most effective and immediate way to achieve a broad-based reduction in prices.

Supporting consumers

The decision to provide an emergency discount to all fuel trading companies aims to temporarily stabilise the functioning of the market under the current difficult conditions, during a particularly important period for the Greek economy, for the benefit of the final consumer.

What the decision provides

Specifically, the company will apply an emergency discount to all fuel trading companies exclusively for sales of products in the domestic market.

The discount will amount to 7.95 euro cents per litre before VAT on 95-octane unleaded petrol and 4.05 euro cents per litre before VAT on diesel fuel, and will be shown as a separate item on invoices.

The discount will be effective from July 14, 2026, until August 31, 2026.

International conditions affecting pump prices

The move by HELLENiQ ENERGY comes at a time when European fuel markets are facing increased demand due to seasonal factors and the tourism period.

At the same time, global refining capacity shortages, particularly in the Mediterranean region, are emerging, decoupling product prices from international crude oil prices and pushing them to particularly high levels.

A significant share of global refining capacity remains offline, while two crises in the wider region are placing particular pressure on European countries.

In the Middle East, the recent resumption of hostilities between Iran and the United States, restrictions on transit through the Strait of Hormuz, and the inability to immediately restore damaged refining facilities are extending instability in international crude oil and refined product markets.

Meanwhile, drone attacks on Russian refineries have led Moscow to announce, for the first time in its history, a ban on all diesel exports, while also moving to import petrol in order to strengthen strategic reserves and meet domestic demand.
