Greece’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy has signed a renewed authorization agreement with the recognized classification society China Classification Society (CCS).

The new bilateral agreement will remain in force for four years, commencing on June 19, 2026. According to a ministry statement, the agreement was signed on behalf of the ministry by Hellenic Coast Guard Commandant Vice Admiral Christos Kontorouchas, acting under the authority delegated by Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Vassilis Kikilias.

Scope of the Agreement

The agreement governs the delegation of statutory services to the recognized organization, including the inspection and certification of Greek-flagged vessels and their operating companies, in accordance with applicable national and international regulations.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs noted that the renewal of the authorization of an internationally recognized organization, accredited under EU Regulation 391/2009 and a member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), reaffirms the Greek maritime administration’s commitment to navigational safety and further strengthens the quality credentials of the Greek ship registry.
