Costamare steps up newbuilding program

Costamare Inc. has 16 new containership newbuilding agreements underway in China, which are expected to generate an additional 2.8 billion dollars in contracted revenues for the company.

Total contracted backlog has now exceeded the 6 billion threshold, reaching 6.2 billion, with a remaining average charter duration of 6.1 years—equivalent to more than 1 billion dollars per year on average. The New York-listed company, controlled by Kostis Konstantakopoulos, is currently executing a shipbuilding program for a total of 22 containerships.

In particular, during April, the company agreed to the construction of 12 containerships of 9,200 TEUs each, which have been chartered to Cosco for a period of 15 years.

In the same period, it also added four 3,100 TEU vessels to its orderbook, which are similarly chartered to Cosco for eight years. Since 2025, the company has also had under construction an additional six 3,100 TEU boxships, already chartered for eight years to a major liner operator.

Neptune Leasing

With regard to Neptune Leasing, in which Costamare holds a controlling stake, it is noted that the platform has financed or committed to finance 52 vessels, with a total value of 675 million dollars.

For the first quarter of 2026, invested capital amounted to 182.2 million dollars.
