Three Energy Storage Facilities (ESFs) developed by MORE, with a total installed capacity of 72 MW and storage capacity of 144 MWh, are entering the final phase of connection to the electricity grid.

These three facilities are among the first projects of their kind to become operational in Greece. Following the approval of requests by the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO), the “Ternitsa” facility in Fokida (30 MW / 60 MWh), “Vevi” in Florina (22 MW / 44 MWh), and “Sanida” in Boeotia (20 MW / 40 MWh) are moving into the final stage of activation.

Connection timeline

Specifically, the energization and grid connection process to the electricity transmission system is scheduled to take place between Wednesday, April 15 and Friday, April 17.

According to MORE, construction of the facilities was completed within a particularly short timeframe—approximately five months—achieving a high implementation pace and ensuring full operational readiness as early as autumn 2025. Their energization became possible following the completion of the relevant regulatory framework.

The commissioning of the first large-scale energy storage projects enhances the utilization of renewable energy sources and reduces curtailments. It also contributes to system stability and creates the conditions for lowering electricity costs for both consumers and businesses. At the same time, it represents another step toward strengthening Greece’s energy autonomy and advancing the transition to a more flexible and efficient energy system.

MORE is a subsidiary of the Motor Oil Group and ranks among the largest renewable energy companies in Greece. The company develops, constructs, and operates renewable energy and storage projects, actively contributing to the transformation of the country’s energy sector.

The projects were selected under the second competitive tender process of the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water for energy storage systems and are being implemented through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0,” with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
