In a further significant step to strengthen its fleet, the Greek company Asso.subsea has proceeded with the keel-laying ceremony for its new subsea cable installation vessel, “Althea,” marking the official commencement of its construction.

The keel of the new vessel, currently being built at the China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) shipyard in Shenzhen, has now been laid. The vessel has been designed to support the growing demands of the offshore energy sector, incorporating advanced cable-laying systems, high-capacity storage, and DP-2 dynamic positioning capabilities for high-precision operations. Scheduled for delivery in 2027, “Althea” is expected to significantly enhance the company’s operational capabilities in subsea installation projects, at a time when the global energy transition is accelerating.

This investment forms part of the company’s broader growth strategy under the leadership of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alexandros Tziotakis.
