The President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, Melina Travlos, together with members of the Board of Directors, welcomed the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, at the Union’s monthly board meeting.
Current maritime issues were discussed, particularly those related to the competitiveness and security of European shipping. The Commissioner presented the European Maritime Industrial Strategy and the European Ports Strategy, which were recently announced, while special emphasis was placed on the challenges and risks faced by the shipping sector amid ongoing military operations in the Middle East.
Greek shipping, representing 61% of the total EU fleet capacity, constitutes a cornerstone of Europe’s autonomy, as well as its food and energy security.
