The pilot implementation of the European SMAUG project was successfully completed at the Port of Heraklion. SMAUG is an innovative programme funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe and implemented with the participation of more than 20 partners from across Europe.

The project aims to enhance port security through the deployment of advanced surveillance technologies across land, sea, and air. As part of the pilot program, coordinated trials were carried out using UAVs, specialized sensors, and data analytics systems, providing a comprehensive, real-time overview of port activity.

The successful implementation highlighted the importance of integrating multiple technologies for the early detection of risks.

The CEO of the Heraklion Port Authority, Minas Papadakis, emphasized that the project represents a significant milestone for the port’s innovation, security, and operational readiness.
