The Corfu Port Authority S.A. (OLKE) is advancing targeted investments in electrification and “green” port services as part of its participation in the Argonaut initiative, which promotes sustainable maritime tourism in the Adriatic and Ionian regions.

Within the framework of the project, OLKE took part in the 2nd meeting of Argonaut, held on March 19 in Gallipoli, hosted by the Municipality of Gallipoli. During the meeting, partners reviewed progress to date and coordinated the next steps for the coming six months. A key focus of the Port Authority’s actions is the expansion of electrification across its port facilities, aiming to reduce emissions and upgrade the energy performance of the ports under its jurisdiction.

The main interventions being implemented include:

  • procurement of electric vehicles to support port operations
  • installation of charging stations within port infrastructure
  • acquisition of an electric vessel to meet operational needs

The Argonaut project seeks to establish a cross-border cooperation framework for sustainable maritime tourism by creating a network of ports and marinas that adopt environmentally friendly practices, modern technologies and innovative management solutions.

The CEO of OLKE, Dimitris Apergis, stated: “The transition to a more sustainable and environmentally responsible port is a strategic priority for the Corfu Port Authority. Through the Argonaut project, we are moving forward with targeted investments in electrification and green port infrastructure, strengthening Corfu’s role as a hub for sustainable maritime tourism in the Adriatic and Ionian region. Our goal is to develop a modern port that combines growth, innovation and environmental stewardship.”

The next meeting of the Argonaut project is scheduled to take place in Corfu in October 2026, an event expected to further highlight the island’s role in advancing sustainable maritime tourism and green port practices in the region.

The project is co-funded by the Interreg VI-A Greece–Italy Programme.

These investments form part of a broader plan to modernise Corfu’s port system and are expected to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of port operations, while enhancing service efficiency for port users and the wider maritime tourism sector.
