Greek coastal shipping is in a phase of profound transformation, aiming to ensure reliable island connectivity and promote the green transition in terms of competitiveness, the CEO of the Attica group, Panos Dikaios, said speaking at the 49th Interferry Conference in Italy.

He noted that Greece, with more than 6,000 islands and islets, has the second largest passenger maritime transport project in the EU.

As he pointed out, the intense seasonality, the geographical complexity of the routes, the heterogeneous port infrastructure and the increased needs for fleet renewal form a demanding environment.

He also stressed that the green transition with a social dimension, the utilization of European resources, the upgrading of ports and the redesign of the coastal shipping network are the main directions of the sector’s policy.
