The Hellenic Shipyards Association expressed its strong protest over the exclusion of the proposal of its member, ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group, from the updated list of programs promoted by Greece for financing through the European SAFE mechanism.
As it pointed out, despite the fact that ONEX’s file was submitted in accordance with all the instructions of the Directorate-General for the Development of Greek Shipyards and Infrastructure and fully met the SAFE criteria, the proposal was not even recorded in the list transmitted to the General Staffs, a list that includes 25 programs, with a total estimated value of 3 billion euros.
It noted that the absence of any official information, both to the Union and to the ONEX Group, constitutes an institutional deviation from the prescribed procedures.
“No one has contacted us for clarification, additional information or even to justify the non-inclusion of the proposal,” it emphasized.
The ONEX Group’s proposal concerned 3 categories of ships that respond to existing and publicly announced needs of the Navy:
- Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs)
- Modular design ships, from OPV to Multi Mission Corvette
- Gunboats
According to the Hellenic Navy, these are designs fully compatible with the National Defense Industrial Strategy, the known needs of the Navy and the priorities set by the government to strengthen domestic shipbuilding production.
