Enaon’s plans to expand natural gas to new cities in Greece, as part of the overall investment plan of 693 million euros until 2030, were presented by the company’s management at a relevant press conference.
Ioannina, Igoumenitsa, Preveza, Agrinio, Patras and Pyrgos are expected to take their turn and join Enaon’s natural gas map in 2026, with a similar continuation to follow in the remaining years of execution of the development program that has been submitted for approval to the Waste, Energy and Water Regulatory Authority.
According to the data announced and presented by Enaon CEO Barbara Morgante, during the period 2023-2025, 1,500 kilometers of network were added, supply was activated in 13 cities and customers increased by 67,000. Natural gas is now available in 52 cities in Attica, 14 in Thessaloniki and 18 in Thessaly.
It is noted that the investment plan of 693 million euros until the end of the decade is broken down into 507 million euros or 73% for network development, 108 million euros or 16% for network digitalization and 78 million euros or 11% for maintenance, which includes, among other things, the completion of the replacement of the old cast iron network found mainly in the case of Athens.
258,000 new consumers
In addition, the company’s new investment plan, always with a horizon of 2030, includes the addition of 258,000 new consumers, the expansion of the existing network by 2,500 kilometers, as well as the replacement of all (568,000) consumption meters with “smart” meters. In fact, as stated by Pier Lorenzo Dell’Orco, president of Enaon, the company aims to reach around 1 million connections by the end of 2031, recording an increase of 6.5% annually.
Τhe aforementioned plan is part of Italgas’s overall strategic plan 2025-2031, which includes investments of around 1 billion euros in Greece, as underlined, among others, by Italgas CEO Paolo Gallo at the press conference.
The company’s plan also includes the development of 17 biomethane units, with the management welcoming the establishment of the institutional framework, while underlining the need to resolve the remaining regulatory issues, the most important of which is the support scheme that will be chosen for these specific units.
