The Environment and Energy Ministry is expected to announce measures on reducing energy costs in industry, Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis said at an event organized by the Federation of Industries of Greece (SVE).

Hatzidakis also referred to the discussions that are underway with the European Commission, especially in relation to what is called the “Italian model”.

The reduction of energy costs was also the major issue raised by the president of the SVE, Loukia Saranti, emphasizing that Greek industries “are anxiously awaiting the reduction of energy costs from our own government” following similar moves by the governments of Italy, Germany and Bulgaria.

The more general and final goal, according to the president of the SVE, must be one: for the country to implement in practice a production model with a prominent role for industry, and to do this, a national strategy and cross-party commitment are needed.

Hatzidakis assured that the government stands firmly by the industry because it is the main driver of growth and described the 60,000 new jobs that – as he emphasized – have been created by the industry in Greece over the last six years as proof of this support.

The Deputy Prime Minister also made special reference to the “Mitos” platform, through which over 4,050 procedures in the relations of citizens and businesses with the state are recorded with the aim of simplifying or abolishing them, as well as to the promoted acceleration of the pace of justice delivery, announcing that the days required to finalize a case will be reduced from 1,500 to 650 by 2027.
