Lidl Hellas is planning investments of 200 million euros for the two-year period 2026-2027, which focus on upgrading and strengthening the network and the dynamics of the distribution centers.
According to what the outgoing CEO of the company, Martin Brandenburger, said in a press conference, the opening of five new stores is planned within the new year, while he announced that the new store in Maroussi will also be operational by the end of 2025. Currently, the chain’s network consists of 231 points of sale nationwide.
As for the plans to strengthen the dynamics of the warehouses, the renovation of the logistics center in Trikala is expected to be completed in 2026, while the project concerning the new distribution center in Elefsina, with a total area of 60,000 square meters, will be ready to operate in 2029. The investment in Elefsina will amount to 120 million euros, with the majority of these funds not being included in the budget for the next two years. The company is expected to employ 150-200 employees.
Meanwhile, the company now operates five logistics centers.
By the end of 2027, the chain plans to install self-checkout cashiers in all stores in its network (out of 40 stores that currently have them), while the redesign of the bazaar section at the points of sale will begin next spring.
The new plan follows the two-year investment program for the years 2024-2025, which exceeded 100 million euros.
Making special mention of the support offered by Lidl to the Greek economy, Brandenburger said that last year the company’s contribution to GDP amounted to 1.072 billion euros, while its contribution to state coffers totaled 438 million euros.
