Piraeus emerged as the protagonist of the developments in the elections that followed the work of the General Assembly of the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME) in Barcelona, assuming the Vice Presidency of the organization and confirming its upgraded international role.

ASCAME is the largest economic cooperation body in the Mediterranean with more than 300 member Chambers of Commerce and Industry and constitutes a key pillar of dialogue and development in the region. The Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry said in its announcement that the assumption of the presidency by Spain and the Vice Presidency by Greece, coincide with a critical phase of development for the wider European South and Mediterranean North, which promotes a range of strategic projects and actions with an international impact.

“In the field of shipping and port infrastructure, new terminals and digitalized, sustainable transport solutions are being implemented that reduce emissions and enhance competitiveness. At the same time, entrepreneurship and innovation are being supported, promoting start-ups, logistics hubs and international cooperation networks. Piraeus actively participates in Mediterranean and European projects, attracts foreign investments and promotes Greek products on a global scale. In the context of sustainable development, the port city of Piraeus invests in the energy upgrade of infrastructure and in circular economy strategies while, at the same time, strengthening the social and educational dimension with training programs and partnerships with universities,” the Chamber pointed out.

Through these initiatives, Piraeus is consolidating its position as a leading force in the Mediterranean and gaining a strong international footprint, making the Vice Presidency in ASCAME a tool for further strengthening its influence at the regional and global level.

As stated in the Chamber’s announcement, “the assumption of the Vice Presidency by the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry is not just an institutional success, but a clear demonstration of the growing geopolitical value of our country and the economic influence of Piraeus, but also of the leading role of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the development and business and geopolitical events in the Mediterranean. As the most important port of the Eastern Mediterranean and a critical hub connecting Europe, Asia and Africa, Piraeus today functions as a catalyst in international supply chains and as a pillar of stability in a region of constant change.”
