DEPA Commercial and Ukraine’s Naftogaz signed an agreement for the supply of natural gas to Ukraine from December 2025 to March 2026.

The agreement, which establishes Greece as a transit hub for American LNG to Eastern and Central Europe, was presented as a key step for regional energy security.

“Route 1” Corridor

The LNG will originate from the United States and will be transported through the interconnected “Route 1” system, which is supported by the Transmission System Operators of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.

This is a reliable, multinational corridor that leverages Greece’s critical infrastructure, enabling stable gas flows along the Vertical Corridor.

The supply of American LNG will be implemented through ATLANTIC – SEE, the new LNG company in which DEPA holds a 40% stake.

“An energy bridge from Greece to Ukraine”

The CEO of DEPA Commercial, Konstantinos Xifaras, stressed that the agreement “constitutes a substantial contribution to regional energy cooperation”, underlining that the delivery of natural gas through a stable, multinational corridor is a real “energy bridge” that strengthens Europe’s resilience.

Naftogaz’s message: “We are ensuring heating for the winter”

Naftogaz’s head, Sergii Koretskyi, noted that the agreement “opens up another reliable import route” for Ukraine, allowing for the expansion of supply sources at a time when Russian attacks on energy infrastructure continue. “We are ensuring reliable heating for Ukrainians,” he said, thanking DEPA and the Ukrainian leadership for their contribution.

Political dimension

The agreement is part of the announcements made during the meeting and press conference of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Ukrainian president described the agreement as very important, while thanking Greece for its long-term support, both in energy and in his country’s European path.

Zelensky also referred to the need for long-term energy planning and the Ukrainian reconstruction effort: “We expect Greek companies to participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine”, he noted.

On his part, the Greek Prime Minister welcomed the deepening of bilateral energy ties, stressing the importance of Greek infrastructure for European energy security.

A step of strategic importance

The DEPA-Naftogaz agreement highlights Greece’s position as a strategic energy hub in SE Europe, at a time when the diversification of natural gas sources and routes is becoming crucial for the entire continent.

With energy security at the center of geopolitical developments, Athens is gaining an upgraded role on the map of the European energy architecture.
