Greece’s 14 regional airports managed by Fraport saw a 2.6% increase in passenger traffic, with more and more travelers choosing to travel during off-peak months, while the year is expected to end with 37 million passengers.
Alexander Zinell, the company’s CEO, said he saw a boost in traffic in November. “Statistics show an increase of approximately 5% for November,” the head of Fraport Greece said.
He described Greece as a “shining star” in relation to Northern Europe in terms of economic growth and digitalization, however, as he said, the destinations need the necessary infrastructure.
On the front of investments that are expected to contribute to the capacity of airports, in addition to the 50 million euros spent annually on the upgrade of airports, an investment program of 200 million euros is underway until 2030, part of which will be covered by the Recovery Fund, for the modernization of the runways of some of the airports and the expansion of the capacity of four airports, Santorini, Mykonos, Kos, Corfu, as well as Kalamata, which will be included as of 2026.
