The nine-month period of 2025 closed with stable profits and credit expansion 60% higher than last year for the country’s systemic banks.

Interest income for systemic banks showed a total decrease of 300 million euros compared to the nine months of 2024, as this year it seems that the reductions in the ECB’s reference interest rates that had begun in the summer of 2024 were absorbed.

Credit expansion appears to be accelerating for the country’s systemic banks, with the annual target now around 13 – 14 billion euros. Business loans, as all banks reported during the analysts’ briefing, were the main driver for new disbursements that prompted – in some cases – the upward revision of credit expansion targets.
