The strategic importance of Greek-American cooperation in shipping and energy was underlined by the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Vasilis Kikilias in an interview with the OPEN television station.

“US investments in FSRUs and in Greek ports are of great importance,” the minister noted, emphasizing that the Greek-owned fleet – which represents 20% of global capacity – plays a crucial role in the transport of LNG and goods internationally.

He also highlighted the importance of regional cooperation between Greece, Cyprus, Israel and Egypt for the creation of a strong axis of stability and interconnection in the Eastern Mediterranean, in a period of geopolitical tensions and reshuffles.

Referring to Greek-Turkish relations, the minister highlighted the need for dialogue and cooperation, clarifying that “first of all, we safeguard our national sovereign rights”. Finally, he underlined that significant armament programs are being promoted for the Coast Guard, strengthening the security and surveillance of maritime borders.
