The joint pilot program for the reduction of methane emissions in shipping by the Swiss Daphne Technology and Maran Gas, a company of the Angelicoussis Group, interests of Maria Angelicoussis, was successfully concluded.
The test was carried out on the LNG carrier Maran Gas Chios and marks the first application of the system on a commercial ship carrying liquefied natural gas.
The SlipPure™ system aims to reduce “methane leakage” — unburned methane released by LNG dual-fuel engines, one of the biggest environmental challenges for the LNG fleet. Both companies emphasize the value of the information that will be obtained, which will guide further innovations and help reduce risks for future applications. However, the success of the program strengthens the efforts of the Greek shipping industry for innovative solutions to reduce emissions.
