The Athens International Airport (AIA) announced its financial results for the nine months (ending September 30, 2025), in which it recorded a steady growth path and strong operational performance, in a period characterized by increased passenger traffic and positive revenue trends. Passenger traffic at the “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport totaled 26.1 million passengers, achieving an increase of 6.7% compared to the corresponding period in 2024, confirming Athens’ potential as an international aviation hub.
This increase reflects the continued recovery of tourism, the expansion of destinations and AIA’s strategic partnership with airlines investing in the Greek market.
Total revenue and other income amounted to 526.9 million euros, recording an increase of 3.5% year-on-year, mainly due to the strengthening of passenger traffic and the adjustment of airport charges in accordance with the current regulatory framework. This performance confirms AIA’s sustainable growth, as well as the stability of its pricing mechanisms and commercial activity.
Adjusted EBITDA amounted to 335.6 million euros, recording a marginal decrease of 1.3% compared to the nine months of last year, a development linked to the company’s short-term business planning and cost management strategy in an investment-intensive environment.
Net profits after taxes amounted to 185.8 million euros, down 4.8%, a development mainly attributed to the decrease in the Transferable Amount, which was however partially offset by the increase in the Aviation Capital, in line with the targets set by the organization.
Despite the slight slowdown in profits, AIA maintains strong fundamentals, continuing to invest in infrastructure, sustainability and technological upgrading, in order to respond to the steadily increasing demand and support the national economy as a key pillar of Greek tourism and aviation.
26.2 million passengers
During the first nine months of 2025, the Airport’s traffic reached 26.2 million passengers, up 6.7% compared to the first nine months of 2024, with domestic and international passengers increasing by 2.2% and 8.5% respectively. Passenger traffic increased in each quarter of the current year compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
At the peak of the summer season, the Athens Airport continued to show strong performance with dynamic growth in the US and Middle East markets, standing out as one of the most connected hubs in Europe (ranking 8th in the pan-European ranking). Direct transatlantic flights are also recording a spectacular increase, with Athens now connecting to nine US cities and recording 103 weekly frequencies – almost double compared to two years ago.
The latest market trends and developments indicate that passenger demand for the year 2025, taking into account the performance during both the summer season and the rest of the year, is expected to follow a growth path in the mid-single digits. However, geopolitical tensions and the resulting macroeconomic challenges remain determining factors for the course of air traffic in the coming months.
