Inflation soars to 2.7% in February – Beef prices up 25%

Greece’s inflation rose in February with beef prices playing a leading role, even as olive oil prices have been on a downward trend for months.

Chocolate and coffee remained in second and third place among food items posting price increases, both still recording double-digit rates.

According to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), inflation rose to 2.7% in February, up from 2.5% in January.

In the first places with the largest increases, on an annual basis, was beef with a percentage of 25.6%, followed by chocolates and chocolate products which increased by 16.7%, coffee by 15%, fruits by 13.5% and lamb-goat by 12.1%. On the contrary, the largest drop of 27.4% was recorded by the price of olive oil.

In the energy sector, electricity recorded an increase of 3%, on an annual basis, while a 19.3% drop was recorded in the price of natural gas and 7.7% in heating oil. These figures do not include the course of energy prices after the conflict in the Middle East in order to show the effects on inflation.

Moreover, a price increase of 10.9% was recorded in flight tickets compared to February 2025.
