Safe Bulkers Inc., whose CEO is Poly V. Hajioannou, took another important step in the strategic decarbonization of its fleet.

The Japanese-built, 78,000 dwt, Cypriot-flagged cargo ship MV Kypros Loyalty recently completed an extensive upgrade with a new, ultra-low friction hull coating, further enhancing its energy efficiency and reducing its environmental footprint.

The company is implementing corresponding technological upgrades across its fleet, with measurable results.

According to its data, carbon intensity decreased by 6.09% in 2024 compared to 2023, after reductions of 7.42% in the period 2022–2023 and 7.16% in 2021–2022.
