The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has taken another technological step forward, renewing its regulations so as to allow the use of drones for measuring steel structures, as a standardized alternative method in ship inspections.
An initiative developed by the Technology team led by Dr. Christos Leontopoulos together with the Survey team.
As emphasized, this development changes the data in technical inspections, as drones offer increased accuracy, significant time and cost savings, but above all they enhance safety, limiting the need for inspectors to access difficult and dangerous parts of ships.
ABS confirms its strategy of utilizing cutting-edge technologies for the benefit of the shipping industry, offering practical, immediately applicable benefits to shipowners and managers.
