Transgas Power is one of two FSRUs that will serve the Deutsche Ostsee LNG terminal at Mukran.

The two floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) of George Prokopiou’s Dynagas, which have been chartered by the German government, have started operating.

The reason for the ships Transgas Power and Transgas Force, with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters and built in 2021 each, which will help Germany to diversify its energy sources and become further independent of Russian gas.

Transgas Power is one of two FSRUs that will serve the Deutsche Ostsee LNG terminal at Mukran.

Next winter the ship will moor at the designated pier 12 in the industrial port of Mukran and will start its operation as an FSRU. Until then, it is being used as an LNG carrier. In fact, the vessel is already carrying its first cargo in the Baltic Sea and will arrive at the Lubmin LNG terminal, managed by Deutsche ReGas, at the end of next week.

Transgas Power has the capacity to regasify up to 7.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year when operating as an FSRU.

“With the delivery of Transgas Power, we take another important step towards the realization of the Mukran terminal. We are pleased to have found this interim solution with our partners until the FSRU is operational. This means that we can already use the vessel, which is only two years old, to stabilize the safe supply of natural gas,” Ingo Wagner, Managing Director of Deutsche ReGas, stated.

As for Dynagas’ other FSRU, Transgas Force, state-owned LNG terminal operator Deutsche Energy Terminal said that it will provide services at Stade.

The German company expects the station to start operating within the first quarter of 2024.

According to shipping portal MarineTraffic, the Dynagas FSRU has been docked in the German port of Bremerhaven since late July.

It is noted that after receiving it from the shipyard, in 2021, Transgas Force was chartered as an LNG carrier. Therefore, since it will serve Stade, it had to undergo some changes to be operational as an FSRU.
