Ministry confirms: 2 armed Turkish servicemen arrested on Greek territory

Two Turkish servicemen were detained in the Peplos site on the frontier with Turkey in the Evros prefecture, Greek authorities announced on Sunday afternoon, confirming initial press reports of an incident involving gunfire in the border region hours earlier.

The relevant defense ministry in Athens said the incident was under investigation, merely adding that a Greek army patrol spotted two armed Turkish soldiers on Greek territory and arrested them.

According to later reports from the Greek capital, the two men were returned to Turkish territory at roughly 18.30 local time, whereas unofficial sources also claimed they were not armed and that no shots were fired.
