Chamber union president: Greece needs business-friendly environment

The head of Greece’s union of chambers of commerce on Saturday called for urgent action by the state to improve the business environment and entrepreneurship in the recession-ravaged country.

Veteran chamber president Constantine Michalos, speaking to a general assembly of the specific group in the northwest coastal town of Preveza, said the problem in Greece isn’t only high taxation, as similar rates exist in other European countries as well.

“We often hear that high taxation exists in other European country. Yes, there are high rates in those countries; however, there is also a stable, reliable and friendly business environment. In Greece, despite reforms that were supposedly implemented within the memoranda framework, we still lag behind in all categories in terms of being business friendly.”
