Igoumenitsa Port Authority, led by CEO Athanasios Porfyris, highlighted the strategic role of the Port of Igoumenitsa in the green and digital transition of European ports through its participation in the transnational meeting of the European Waterbridging program, held in Thessaloniki.

The meeting was organized by Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) and focused on the future of sustainable transport in the Adriatic-Ionian region. OLIG representative Stefania Monachos emphasized the port’s pivotal role in the Adriatic Corridor and its strategic transition toward becoming a modern “Green Port.”

Particular emphasis was placed on OPS infrastructure (onshore power supply for vessels), the strengthening of digitalization, and investments promoting sustainable mobility, operational efficiency, and cross-border cooperation.

As highlighted during the meeting, the Waterbridging project reinforces Igoumenitsa’s position as a modern and sustainable transport gateway for the Adriatic region and the broader European market.
