A surprise raid by anti-corruption prosecutors at the home of Greek central banker Yannis Stournaras on Thursday abruptly shifted attention from ongoing talks in Athens between the government and representatives of institutional creditors.
The raid reportedly stemmed from ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities regarding millions of euros in advertising spending by a state-run disease control center (KEELP.NO). Stournaras’ wife at a company awarded some of the contracts between 2011 and 2013.
Bank of Greece Gov. Stournaras himself contacted Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and informed him of the unprecedented action.
