Main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis paid a surprise visit to a temporary refugee shelter at the old Athens airport installations in southern coastal Athens, where he called for the immediate evacuation of the makeshift camp.
Mitsotakis talked with several Mideast refugees hosted in the Helleniko district as well as three mayors of local municipalities that border the site.
“Conditions here are, unfortunately, beyond tragic, and will deteriorate as the summer progresses,” he said.
