Greek pro basketball player to acquire Turkish passport; mother hailed from Marmara Sea isle

Panathinaikos power forward Antonis Fotsis will acquire a Turkish passport in a couple of months, according to press reports.

The Greece international, whose career stints also include a year in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies, Real Madrid, Dynamo Moscow and Olimpia Milano, said his application to acquire a Turkish passport aims to honor the memory of his recently deceased mother.

The pro basketball player’s mother hailed from the Marmara Sea island of Halki (modern-day Heybeliada), part of the Adalar district of Istanbul, Turkey.
