New arrears of 2.6 bln€ to tax bureau, pension funds in first 2 months of 2018

Total arrears to the Greek state again exceeded the “psychological barrier” of 100 billion euros in February 2018, reaching 101.6 billion euros, an increase of 2.013 billion euros from the start of the year for the specific figure. Some 1.908 billion euros are new arrears.

According to figures announced by the independent public revenues authority, new arrears to the tax bureau and pension funds totaled 2.6 billion euros. What is noteworthy is the fact that one billion euros of the 2.6-billion-euro new arrears figure corresponds to just 26 legal entities or individual taxpayers.

Although more than half of Greece’s GDP, in 2016 figures, the total nevertheless includes arrears dating back decades, often by legal entities no longer in operation and taxpayers no longer alive or active.
