In collaboration with Acciaieria Arvedi, one of the leading steel producers in Italy, Metlen is moving forward, supporting its inclusion in the innovative Energy Release 2.0 mechanism.

The mechanism has been established by the Italian Energy Services Operator (GSE) and aims to support industrial energy consumption through the development of renewable sources.

As explained in a relevant announcement, “the agreement concerns the supply of approximately 2.4 TWh of energy to Acciaieria Arvedi, ensuring stable and competitive pricing, a crucial factor for energy-intensive industries in today’s unstable European energy environment.”

Under the Energy Release 2.0 mechanism, Metlen will develop and commission approximately 170 MW of new installed photovoltaic capacity in Italy over the next three years. The projects will benefit from a fixed remuneration of €65/MWh, guaranteed by the GSE, through the so-called “Italian model”.

Tangible solutions to the energy cost challenge in Europe

As stated in the Metlen announcement, European industry continues to face higher energy costs compared to international competition, which puts pressure on its competitiveness and long-term resilience. Energy-intensive sectors, such as aluminum and non-ferrous metals, are particularly exposed. In this environment, Energy Release 2.0 offers an innovative model that directly links industrial energy supply with the accelerated development of renewable projects.

“This agreement highlights how large industrial and energy groups can work together to offer tangible solutions to the energy cost challenge in Europe. By collaborating with Metlen, Acciaieria Arvedi chooses a partner with deep industrial know-how and proven experience in implementing complex energy projects at a European level,” the announcement stated.

The projects will be developed and implemented by Metlen’s Renewables & Energy Transition Platform, one of the most dynamic and reliable contractors in Italy for large-scale photovoltaic and battery energy storage projects. Leveraging its international experience, with over 6 GW of completed projects, more than 5.0 GW under construction and a development portfolio of over 8 GW, Metlen is making a significant contribution to the optimal integration of solar energy with advanced storage solutions.
