Greek defense companies and the Greek defense technology and industrial base ecosystem are called to participate in the new round of actions of the European Defense Fund 2026, amounting to 1 billion euros, following the “green light” that EDF 2026 received from the European Commission.

The annual event “EDF Info Day”  is scheduled for March 10-11, 2026, in Brussels, and concerns the presentation and information on the new actions of the European Defense Fund (EDF) during the current financial year, which aims to support collaborative defense research and development in the EU.

During the first day, DG DEFIS (Defence Industry and Space) staff will present the EDF 2026 calls for proposals and explain the submission process. During the second day, the event will offer the opportunity for international networking with the aim of forming R&D consortia and processing proposals through thematic conferences. The second day will also include the “EU Defence Investor Day”, giving the opportunity to investors, innovators and representatives of the EU and Member States to collaborate on potential funding opportunities in key defence technologies.

The European Defence Fund (EDF) is the main financial instrument of the European Commission to strengthen collaborative research and development (R&D) in the defence sector. It aims at innovation, technological readiness and collaboration between companies, research centres and institutions from the EU active in the defence sector. Since the entry into force of the EDF (2021-2027) in May 2021, the Commission has committed a total of almost 6.5 billion euros, making it one of the leading investors in defence research and development worldwide.

As VK Premium analysts explained to ‘N’, “the EDF activates a particularly ambitious Work Program of approximately 1 billion euros, opening up significant opportunities for businesses, research centers and innovation organizations throughout the European Union. It offers an extremely favorable framework for transnational collaborations between industry and research, development of mature technologies with a clear orientation to operational needs, entry of new players and innovative SMEs into the European defense value chain.”

It includes 31 topics, which are divided into 7 thematic calls, 3 non-thematic calls, 1 special action to address threats from hypersonic glide vehicles as well as 2 actions within the framework of the European Defense Medical Countermeasures Alliance. In total, 10 calls for proposals are planned, covering the entire spectrum of defense technology – from basic research to mature technological development.
