The world football federation (FIFA) is reportedly pressing for a resumption in the Greek cup tournament, which was postponed indefinitely two weeks ago by a relevant sports deputy minister after a riotous ending to the first leg of a semi-final match between PAOK Thessaloniki and Olympiacos Piraeus.
FIFA has sent a letter to the Greek football federation (EPO) notifying that a delegation will arrive in Athens to broach the issue, while a meeting with Minister Stavros Kontonis is also scheduled.
The world federation wants to learn the reasons behind the tournament’s postponement – and possible cancellation for the 2015-16 season – from the protagonists of the measure, while it has also warned of sanctions at the club and national level if the Cup tournament does not resume.
