The challenges of the tanker market were at the heart of INTERTANKO’s Hellenic Mediterranean Panel, held in Athens under the chairmanship of Dimitris Patrikiou.
Compliance with FuelEU Maritime was a key topic, as members examined the operational and contractual challenges brought about by the new European regulation. The discussion began with an analysis of FAME and HVO biofuels, with an emphasis on bunkering practices and storage procedures that require special attention.
It was emphasized that the successful utilization of biofuels depends on rigorous documentation and sampling procedures. Particular emphasis was placed on contractual extensions, as the first reporting period is about to be completed.
Members exchanged views on the terms that should be incorporated into time charter contracts, while the panel included, among others, INTERTANKO President Rolf Westfal-Larsen Jr. and Managing Director Tim Wilkins.
