The economic climate index showed a slight improvement in October, closing at 107.5 points, from 106.2 points in September.

According to the IOBE economic climate survey, this improvement stems from better expectations in business sectors and several sub-sectors, with the exception of the marginal weakening in Industry. The downward trend in consumer confidence is returning, with consumers’ relatively pessimistic forecasts for the financial situation of households.

Despite the temporary balance in global trade, there have been no definitive settlements on the issue of imposing tariffs to and from the US, therefore this uncertainty also affects the domestic industry.

“Although Greek growth rates remain higher than the eurozone average, they show signs of fatigue, with concerns about the course of investments, especially after the completion of the Recovery Fund programs. Inflation has been decelerating slightly in recent times, but it is still moving higher than the Eurozone average and continues to affect household expectations. The implementation of the economic policy measures announced at the TIF is expected to have a positive impact on household expectations from the beginning of next year,” the IOBE survey stated.

In more detail:

In industry, the mildly positive balance of estimates for orders and demand remained unchanged, estimates for inventories weakened slightly, while positive forecasts for production in the coming months were slightly limited.

In construction, negative forecasts for business programs were slightly reduced, while on the contrary, the corresponding positive forecasts for employment weakened significantly.
In retail trade, the mildly positive estimates for current sales are marginally declining, with the level of inventories sharply decreasing and the forecasts for the short-term development of sales sharply increasing.

In services, positive estimates for the current situation of businesses improved significantly, as did positive estimates for current demand, but also forecasts for its short-term development.

In consumer confidence, households’ negative forecasts for the country’s economic situation intensified, as did those for their own economic situation. On the contrary, forecasts for major purchases improved, while the intention to save slightly weakened.
