US Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt on Thursday echoed recent statements out of Washington, namely, that the Republic of Cyprus has the right to exploit the resources found in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
“The US has been very clear, Washington has spoken repeatedly and consistently in terms of our support for the right of Cyprus to exploit its continental shelf and its resources,” Pyatt said during an event at the Thessaloniki Summit.
He also touched on a recent spike in tensions in the east Mediterranean, mostly fueled by continuing saber-rattling by Ankara.
“The US State Department’s emphasis on keeping the rhetorical temperature at manageable levels,” he said.
