An economy and development ministry work group, which included representatives of shortsea shipowners, this week provided the “green light” for at least two major liberalizations in Greece’s bureaucracy-plagued ship-repair sector, namely, repairs on anchored vessels and the electronic issuance of relevant licenses by port authorities.

Under the current framework, small-scale repairs and maintenance was allowed when vessels were offshore, with numerous shipowners and firms choosing neighboring countries for such services.
