The vital role of shipping in connecting countries, supporting economic growth and sustaining billions of people worldwide was highlighted by Thomas Kazakos, Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), during the 5th Türkiye Maritime Summit in Istanbul.
Speaking on the challenges facing global maritime trade, Kazakos highlighted the resilience demonstrated by the shipping industry in the face of extreme weather events, geopolitical instability, supply chain pressures and other crises.
He also presented findings from the ICS annual industry outlook, the “ICS Maritime Barometer Report 2025-2026”, highlighting the major transitions currently reshaping the sector.
Kazakos placed particular emphasis on seafarers, stressing that “without them, there is no shipping.”
