ONEX Group’s vision for the creation of an integrated shipbuilding and energy ecosystem, which repositions Greece on the international map of industrial production and energy security, was presented by Panos Xenokostas, President & CEO of ONEX Shipyards, during the P-TEC taking place at Zappeion Mansion.

The 6th Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation Summit is attended by 4 US government ministers, 25 EU Energy Ministers and more than 300 representatives of major companies from Europe, the United States and Australia.

As he emphasized, the unification of the two shipyards under ONEX has formed the largest shipbuilding and repair center in Greece, with more than 800 ships having been serviced within 2024, a performance recorded as the highest at the national level.

Xenokostas emphasized that the recovery path was based on the confidence of the employees, the positive attitude of local communities and critical institutional interventions by the Greek government and the US side.

He particularly referred to the legislative framework passed by the United States Congress, which allowed the financing of the first major investments of the ONEX Group by DFC, making Greek shipyards the first in the world to receive such support.

Panos Xenokostas presented the new investment phase of the ONEX Group, which concerns the transformation of Elefsis into an LNG support energy hub, with a full vertical infrastructure of shipbuilding technology, logistics and energy storage.

“Greece can be an alternative corridor for the transport of goods and energy from Attica to the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean”, he noted, pointing out that the relevant investments are aligned with the European goal of energy autonomy and diversification of supply sources. He pointed out that the development of international competition in the shipbuilding and maritime industry is now taking place on a global scale, with intense activity in markets such as China and India.

He also underlined that ONEX shipyards now service over 200 ships annually, including tankers, energy ships and LNG carriers, while investments in modern SMRs and FNPPs technologies are underway.

“These technologies will be the pillars of shipping and energy in the future,” he stressed.
