Ship auctions attracting interest by Greek shippers

Greek shipowning interests are increasingly turning to auctions to acquire high-end used vessels, with Katsikis & Sigalas Ltd. recently purchasing a 2011-made kamsarmax bulker (“Archimedes”) for 14.6 million dollars. The ship has a transport capacity of 81,000 dwt.

On its part, Lavinia, part of the Laskaridis group, also recently acquired a 92,500 dwt vessel for 9.8 million dollars, whereas in March Sea Globe Management & Trading, part of the Vassilis Laliotis group, picked up two modern kamsasmax vessels during an auction in South Africa.
