A hand grenade was tossed outside the French embassy in central Athens in the early morning hours of Thursday, with one police sentry slightly injured in the subsequent blast.

According to reports, two men atop a motorcycle were responsible for the attack.

The embassy building is located in the heart of the Greek capital, across from the side entrance to Parliament.

Authorities later located a motorcycle fitting the description of the one used by the suspects.

The attack, recorded at 4:45 a.m. (02.45 GMT), comes a week before outgoing US President Barack Obama arrives in Athens for an official visit.
