Main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday reiterated his call for snap elections, during an event in Athens to commemorate the 44th anniversary of his center-right party’s founding and to unveil a new party logo.
Speaking during an event packed with veteran party office-holders and younger members at the Benaki Museum Annex, the pro-reform and pro-business Mitsotakis emphasized that “we are the party that kept Greece standing within Europe, despite the waves of populism that emerged with the economic crisis.”
With a view to coming elections, as general elections must be held no later than September 2019, he again promised less taxes and social security contributions.
“The citizens will kick out SYRIZA and AN.EL not merely as politically defeated, but as morally bankrupt,” he said, referring to the radical leftist party that dominates the current “strange bedfellows” coalition, and the small right-wing party that props it up in government.
